Pupil Leadership

The term 'pupil leadership' refers to education principles and practices that reflect the importance of providing children with the opportunities and support to play a role in making the decisions that affect them. The principles of effective pupil leadership include:

  • Recognising that pupils have logical perspectives and opinions on issues that matter in the classroom, in the school, and in the community.
  • Giving pupils an active role in influencing decisions about these issues as well as in the implementation of these decisions.
  • Enabling pupils to participate as active young citizens.

With this in mind, Hampton College Primary pupils are all given the opportunity to play an active role in the life of the school and contribute to many areas of our effective school community.

We have several leadership opportunities open for children; some are elected; some are application, and some are selected by class teachers. These children meet with different staff members who lead each leadership area.

Look out for children wearing badges and ask them what role they play!

School Councillors - now with Miss Bosworth

Our school council consists of children from Years 1 to 6 who meet regularly with Miss Bosworth, one of our Year 5 teachers, to discuss school related issues which the children feel are important to them. Our school councillors are elected through a fair and democratic process, which mirrors election processes in 'the real world' and helps to develop an understanding of the British Value of Democracy.

  • Parking in the local area – We have been working with the Local Authority to encourage parents to sign a ‘parking pledge’
  • Behaviour in the school – this has been in support of our recent changes to the behaviour systems in school
  • Lunchtime ideas for games and activities – how can we develop our lunchtimes
  • Reading in KS2 - how we can develop and enhance the KS2 library area

Our School Councillors are Marley, Rithvik, Jasmine, Haider, Kyra, Connie, Zara, Taliyah, Tajus, Ashley, Mason and Skanda

Sports leaders will have a wide array of roles and responsibilities including supporting teachers with their PE lessons, delivering lunchtime clubs, organising sports day in the summer term and maintaining the use and upkeep of equipment in the PE cupboard.
