The key stage three schemes of work have been set up to develop pupils knowledge in areas of the performance industry. It allows them to explore dramatic techniques and strategies in order to create unique and imaginitive pieces of work. The schemes push independant learning aswell as support such skills as teamwork, problem solving and confidence.

The pupils will learn a variety of genres and styles, ranging from Greek Theatre to Physical Theatre. This will lead them to having an exceptional knowledge within the subject area, and prepares them for the G.C.S.E.

The Drama GCSE Edexcel Examination covers the following components:-

Component 1: Devising

40% of the qualification - 60 marks

Content overview

  • Create and develop a devised piece from a stimulus (free choice for centre)
  • Performance of this devised piece of design realisation for this performance
  • Analyse and evaluate the devising process and performance
  • Performer or designer routes available

Component 2: Performance from Text

20% of the qualification - 48 marks

Content overview:

  • Students will either perform in and/or design for two key extracts from a performance text
  • Centre choice of performance text
  • Performer or designer routes available


Component 3: Theatre Makers in Practice

Written examination: 1 hour 30 minutes

40% of the qualification - 60 marks

Content overview

  • Practical exploration and study of one complete performance text
  • Choice of eight performance texts
  • Living theatre evaluation - free choice of production
